This week we have been updated by two of the girls who are enjoying their cruise across the ocean on the container ship that left Teesport on 29th July.
This year we were lucky enough to secure another two voyages, which gave us the opportunity to offer students a once-in-a-lifetime trip where they are able to gain valuable experience and skills, as well as that all-important independence.
En route to Klaipeda, the students made stop offs in both Helsinki and Rotterdam, where they were free to leave the ship and explore the sights and sounds of the cities.
Amy Bain, student of Manor Academy in Hartlepool sent us an email earlier this week and this is what she had to say:
“It’s been great! The scenery and sunset is so beautiful; especially when we were passing in between Denmark and Sweden. There is way too much food on here but I burn it off walking up the 6 flights of stairs to the second best room on the ship – the owners room! The crew is lovely and we even had a little party with them on Friday!”
Chloe Hodge, also from Manor Academy, had this to say:
“Today we got into Klaipeda at half five and had all night there! We ended up finding a few nice coffee shops and treated ourselves to some cake. Think we worked it off while we tried to find our container ship though! We thought we were in an action movie! The scenery was lovely, and it was about 28 degrees also! Since we got on the container ship our whole experience has been surreal!”
After news that we broke a new record with more students and businesses joining our Summer Scheme than ever before this year, we are overjoyed to see the positive outcome of our efforts. We’re sure this trip will be a memory that these youngsters will treasure forever!
Here are some images of their time away:
