Aiming to encourage manufacturing companies to engage more with young people, Industrial Cadets allows young people aged 9-21 to develop their skills, gain an insight into the industry and become better informed about the careers available.

Our Shipping Cadetship, accredited by Industrial Cadets, helps students to understand and explore potential career paths into the shipping sector and is ideal for those aiming to apply for apprenticeships or further study in a STEM subject. Sponsored by Trinity House, this programme gives students the opportunity to visit a number of shipping and logistics companies to develop an understanding of the global supply chain.

The Industrial Cadets Awards aim to showcase and present excellence awards to selected individuals, schools, colleges and employers, whilst also celebrating achievements made by young people who have given something back as a result of taking part in the Industrial Cadets programme.

Shubhpreet Singh, a fourteen year old from Unity City Acadamy is a finalist for the Rising Star award which looks to celebrate an outstanding young cadet who demonstrates the characteristics and willingness to progress and shows the ability to communicate and work as part of a team.

Shubhpreet has been engaged with High Tide for two years and his ‘can do’ attitude has helped him to achieve bronze Industrial Cadets accreditations in both the Automotive and Shipping Cadetship. He has shown an increased awareness of a wider range of possibilities open to him and he continually aims high and strives to be the best in all he does.

The cadetship has given him the confidence to explore different opportunities that he wasn’t aware of before. His aspirations have been raised and he has clearly been inspired to reach his potential.

Alexe Finlay, the Managing Director of Harbour Management Solutions is a finalist for the Change Maker of the Year Award which celebrates the individual who has made a significant and impactful difference to support the success of the Industrial Cadets initiative.

Alexe has successfully raised awareness of our cadetship among her contacts and as a result we have gained support from Tees & Hartlepool Port Users’ Association.

Alexe has become engaged in the programmes and has supported the young people helping to build their skills. As well as this, Alexe has helped High Tide fundraise through a number of events to enable us to continue to support young people.

We would like to wish Shubhpreet and Alexe the best of luck for the The Industrial Cadets Awards final on 7th March. This fantastic news comes shortly before our next Shipping Cadetship begins on 19th February!
