High Tide Take Part in Tees Rowing Race

Last weekend, we had tons of fun bringing a team together to take part in the Tees Rowing Race, raising money for the Teesside Sea Cadets, Tees Nautical Studies, Mission to Seafarers and the High Tide Foundation.

The nautical adventure took place on the River Tees on Sunday 31st July and was organised by The Sea Cadets, which is a National Charity for which the Queen is its Patron.

Aiming to inspire young people through sea-based activities and challenges to help give them a head start in life, Teesside Sea Cadets are working hard to raise their profile and increase support across the local area. In their strategy to do this, they decided to hold a sponsored rowing race and asked for teams across Teesside to come together and participate.

The race was approximately 600m long and ran from a point off South Wharf into Middlesbrough Dock. Trinity 500 boats were used for this special event, which were designed for the Sea Cadets by infamous Olympic medalist, Jo Richards. A fantastic accolade, we hope you’ll agree!

Throughout the day there were many displays and demonstrations of nautical skills, both on and off the water. As well as this, a huge marquee was erected to combat the typical British weather, with various food outlets serving delicious sustenance, available to spectators and those taking part.

South Tyneside College win the Tees Rowing Race

The High Tide team was made up of individuals from the High Tide Foundation and volunteers from other companies; therefore we named our entry, ‘The Misfits’. Unfortunately we didn’t win, but we did give it a really good go, and it’s safe to say that we enjoyed it! The winners of the day were South Tyneside College, who were kindly sponsored by Svitzer, a global towage and salvage company. Congratulations once again!

As well as raising sponsorship money, we also sold many raffle tickets, raising over £300 in total throughout the day. These raffle tickets are still available to purchase, and winners will be drawn after our Fundraising Ball on September 23rd.
