Running throughout the year, the tour includes a visit to the Harbour Office to hear about the day-to-day management of the river from the Harbour Master and the Tees Bay Pilots, followed by an introduction from a High Tide Trustee and a trip along the River Tees.
Teesport is the UK’s fifth largest port, handling around 36 million tonnes of cargo and over 4600 vessels per year. The port estate covers some 588 acres and is an integral element of the wider industrial area, with petrochemical, agribulks, manufacturing, engineering and high street commerce operations all supported through Teesport.
Delivered in partnership with PD Ports and Tees Bay Pilots, the tours can accommodate up to 8 people and begin by setting sail along the River Tees on board the High Tide Adventure.
A former teacher who took part in a tour said: “It was an amazing opportunity to meet the Harbour Master and his team and learn about the management of the river.
“This has been so educational, not only to the students but also the teachers as I myself had no idea of what really went on down here. This is great knowledge that I can take back with me and share with students.”
For educators and teachers, this can provide an excellent chance to learn more about Teesport and relay this to their students and peers. For many, this could be their first introduction to industries and businesses they perhaps never knew existed on their doorstep!
All industry members and education members are invited to take part in this half day river trip along the Tees.
