The ports sector is diverse, embracing a wide range of activities that are critical to many parts of the UK economy. The UK ports sector is made up of the ports themselves, harbours, private terminals, stevedoring companies and specialist labour supply organisations. In total there are around 500 companies, employing approximately 25,500 people.

Teesport is located less than a mile from the mouth of the River Tees. It’s a deep-water facility with a natural marine opening, providing lock-free access to the North Sea.

Ports have, throughout history, been a place where goods and people arrive or leave the country by sea. The UK port industry, by virtue of our long coastline and maritime
history, is the largest in Europe, handling over 500 million tonnes of freight in 2010.
